Problem: I will give you a ping pong. Since a ping pong table costs several hundred dollars, you are going to make your own ping pong paddles and a travel net (to make any table you have a ping pong table with net)
I just saw this. I feel that someone was using our class idea. Click the blue button above.
Ping Pong Travel Set Grading Rubric (950 total points)
I. Paddles (450 points)
Use the ping pong paddle template (shown above and make 2 paddles)Why two paddles? If you take this home and want to play, you NEED two paddles.-225 points if you only made one paddle
______/75 Weight/Size- Is your paddle light weight? Are both paddles the standard size?
______/75 Sanding/Filing- Is your paddle sanded exceptionally? Did you file the handle so it is comfortable to use?
______/75 Craftsmanship- -5 points for each thing you think you messed up on each paddle.
up on each paddle.
II. Paddle Design and Planning Worksheet(100 points)
Watch the video above. Research how you are going to make your paddles and then list the steps you will do to make awesome paddles!
III. Net Design (100 Points) You may not use MY tape in your net construction!
On a piece of paper, draw out your design. Include multiple views of your net and measurements of how big it will be in real life. Then describe in 50+ words how you are going to construct your travel net. Turn in on Canvas for credit.
IV. Net Construction (300 Points) {You may not use any type of tape in your net construction. Your net cannot be one plank of wood either.}
______100 points Standard Size- Your net should be 6 inches tall, portable (meaning it fits in a back pack), fit on a table ranging from 3.5' to 6.5' wide, and create a barrier for the two playing sides. Your net does not have to have an opening it it. Your net should not be just a plank of wood!
______100 points Ease of Use/Compatibility- Can your net fit on any playing surface? Does it take less than 5 minutes to set up? -50 if it takes more than 5 minutes to set up. -50 if your net cannot be fitted to any playing surface.
_______100 Points Craftsmanship/Durability- -1 points for each thing you think you messed up on your net. Quality construction is key. If your net breaks before the end of the tournament, you will not receive an A. This should be a hand-me-down type toy, not something you would get at the Dollar Tree!
IV. Net Failure Explanation (How to receive full credit if you did not finish a net)
_______ Net Failure Option- So you had a great idea and you could not make it work. Most great engineering ideas take a long time to become fully functional. On a Google Doc, write 150+ words or more on what failed in your project. Did you simply run out of time? Did you pick sub-par materials? Explain what didn't work for full credit.
V. Ping Pong Tournament Purse-
1st place- +400 points
2nd place- +200 points
3rd place- +100 points
4th place- +50 points
