Below are the steps needed to create your CO2 Car. (1300 total points)
1. (100 points) Sketch 2 thumbnail ideas, and one sketch with top and side views (include dimensions). Picture below.
2. Read pages 96-101 in the black manufacturing book. (explains the CO2 car project).
3. (200 points) Draw Orthographic projection of top and side views (draw in full scale on large piece of graph paper). Include a 1/2" title box with name, date, and title of your dragster in neat lettering.
4. (200 points) Draw your design using Google SketchUp. You may download the blank CO2 block SketchUp file below. Email your final design to [email protected] OR load your drawing to your Google Drive and share it with Mr. Cornwell.
SketchUp Grading Rubric:
40% for top view
40% for front view
10% for using 11/64" axle holes
10% for turning it in correctly
5. (200 points) Draw your design on a foam block (Using rulers and drawing tools!) Then cut out using the foam cutter.Take a picture of your foam car.
6. Draw your design on your wood block.
7. Drill 11/64 axle holes FIRST. If you do not, your axle holes will be crooked and cause your car to crash.
8.Cut side view out first using relief cuts.
9. Then draw and cut out the top view.
10. Sand your car 3 times as much as you think you should.
11. Apply primer in the paint booth. Use a paint stand!
12. Apply paint in paint booth, let dry, then steel wool the paint job.
13. Cut axles and connect wheels.
14. Place screw eyes on bottom of car.
15. Race, win, grade your car using your rubric (600 points)
