You have a choice to build a vertical or horizontal smart phone speaker.
Steps to make vertical smart phone speakers
1. Get a 29" inch board board from Mr. Cornwell. Hand plane the rough sides.
2. Cut three 9 inch pieces out of this piece of wood.
3. Hand plane the middle piece of wood to the same thickness as your phone. Use winding sticks to make sure your pieces are flat.
4. Trace the templates for the front and middle pieces
5. Use the hole saw to drill out the giant circle. NOTIFY MR. CORNWELL BEFORE TURNING ON DRILL PRESS.
MAKE SURE TO CLAMP YOUR WORK DOWN! It is VERY dangerous to hold your wood in your hand while drilling.
6. Cut out the middle piece on the band saw. Dry fit your phone to see that the opening is the correct size. This means putting it together without glue.
7. Sand all pieces well.
8. Glue and Clamp all of your pieces in a vice, making sure there are no gaps in the gluing.
9. Give to Mr. Cornwell to help trim the ends of your speaker.
10. Sand all sides of assembled speaker.
11. Grade speaker in Google Classroom.

Steps to make horizontal smart phone speakers
1. Get a 31" inch board board from Mr. Cornwell. Hand plane the rough sides.
2. Cut three 10 inch pieces out of this piece of wood.
3. Trace the templates for the front and middle pieces
4. Cut out the middle piece using the band saw.
5. Use the spindle sander to sand the inside portion of your middle piece and a random orbital sander to do the outside.
6. Trace the thickness of your smart phone on the top piece.
7. Drill a small hole through the opening (big enough for the jig saw blade to fit thru).
8. Put the top piece in a vice and use the jig saw to cut out the smart phone opening.
MAKE SURE THE JIG SAW IS FLAT AGAINST THE WOOD WITH NOTHING UNDERNEATH! It is VERY dangerous if you start the jig saw when the blade is not inside the hole.
9. Use a file to sand the opening.
10. Dry fit your phone to see that the opening is the correct size. This means putting it together without glue.

14. Sand all sides of assembled speaker.
