Summer Enrichment Products
I have taught enrichment summer school (STEM camp) for several summers. Here are a few items that are always well liked by all attendees. These projects "trick" students into learning, even during the summer:)
1. Best Educational Video Game- Return of the Incredible Machines is by far my favorite educational game EVER! If you can find a copy of it, and have a working CD-ROM, your children will love it. If not, try finding it online here. Another fun and educational game is Daedalion Opus.
2. One of my favorite things to teach at summer camp is Rube Goldberg Machines
3. Geodesic Domes: If you can find a copy of this book, it is amazing. This book has several templates that you can cut, fold, and glue to make the domes shown on the front cover.
4. Wiffle Ball Field Design & Tournament- There is a need for recess at every summer camp. I often had students design and build a custom wiffle ball field. I would show them examples, and we would create a field on school grounds. Bases and traditional equipment can be purchased here, or you can buy a plastic replica bat. A wiffle ball strike zone also is a plus to have when playing
5. Robotics- Students that want summer enrichment typically have exceptional intrinsic motivation. Top left shows an Arduino starter kit. For students with some experience, there is an elite explorer kit, and a smart robot car kit that offer tons of summer fun.
